|The original Death Star|
The Death Star was a mighty battlestation created by the Galactic Empire
After the creation of Darth Vader was finished, Darth Sidious prepared to create his mighty empire. With the help of Darth Vader, they were able to get started. After a while, they started constructing the Death Star, which Sidious had already been making the outline of. It was planned to be a giant, spherical battlestation that all would fear.
Upon completing the giant space station, the Empire moved in and created more controls and systems. One major feature built into the Death Star was a giant laser capable of destroying a whole planet.
The plans to the Death Star were kept by the Empire, but a group of Rebel soldiers ended up stealing it.
- Laser Cannon
In a fairly large control room, Imperial Engineers operate the controls of the giant laser cannon (it appears as a dent in the battlestation). The process to activate the cannon is faster than you think-once the Engineers initiate the firing sequence, the laser will fire and blow the targeted planet up in a matter of seconds.
- Tractor Beam and Hangar Bays
Unidentified ships near the Death Star can be pulled in by its tractor beam and into one of the many hangar bays. In the hangar bay, Storm Troopers will board the ship and inspect it. There are controls to shut off the tractor beam, located in a hallway.
- Trash Compactors
Many of these are located around the Death Star. Garbage is thrown down here and crushed by the compactor. The walls slowly close in and eventually flatten the garbage. There is a door in these compactors, which can be activated in control rooms located around the battlestation.
- Prison Block
There are many sections to the prison block, whose cells hold any prisoners the Empire keeps on board the Death Star. Near the front of a prison block section is usually a small control area.
- Darth Sidious's Throne Room
The evil sith ruler himself has a small room that is located in a tower at the top of the Death Star. Not much important is in here, the only furniture being a chair at the top of a staircase.
- Outter Defenses
The Death Star has plenty of weaponry to defend it from space attacks. Many turrets are placed around the battlestation.
This vent it located inside a trench outside the Death Star. This vent is small, and is the mighty space station's weak point. The trench is guarded by laser turrets.
The Rebellion discovered this mighty station and stole the plans to it. They hoped to find a weak point and destroy it before the Empire used it to take control of the galaxy. Princess Leia was given the burden of transporting the plans to the rebel base on Yavin 4. The space ship being used was the Tantive IV.
The ship was intercepted en route to Yavin 4 by an Imperial Star Destroyer. The much bigger ship pulled the Tantive IV into its hangar bay with the use of a tractor beam. Imperial Stormtroopers sliced into the ship's entrance and attacked the Rebel crew. The small Rebel force that attempted to stop the Empire's attack quickly retreated after taking heavy casualties. The Stormtroopers pursued them, and the Rebels eventually surrendered.
Princess Leia ran off and hid the plans into the astromech droid R2-D2, who escaped in an escape pod with C-3P0. The princess was captured by Imperial forces and sent to the Death Star for interragation. She was locked into a prison cell in the prison block section of the Death Star. The cells were small and had one seat.
After Vader's first few interrogations failed, he took her to the battlestation's laser control room. Grand Moff Tarkin threatened to destroy Leia's home planet of Alderaan if she refused to give the Empire the information it needed. The princess caved in and told Tarkin the rebels forces were on Dantooine. Tarkin had the planet destroyed anyway as a demonstration of the Death Star's power.
Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chewbacca, C-3P0 and R2-D2 were later sucked into the station by its tractor beam while searching for Alderaan. The group avoided the Empire's inspection of the ship by disguising themselves as Stormtroopers. The group later split up: Obi-Wan left to shut off the tractor beam, C-3PO and R2 managed the control room, and Han, Luke, and Chewy ran off to rescue Leia. They eventually succeded, but Obi-Wan was killed by Darth Vader.
After the group escaped, the Rebels reviewed the plans and found a weak point. Leading a daring attack, the Rebellion was able to destroy the Death Star. Darth Vader had been fighting the Rebels in a starfighter prior to the destruction of the battlestation.
The Second Death Star
After the destruction of the original Death Star, the Empire regrouped and began making another one, simply titled the Death Star II. It was going to be a replica of the first battlestation. But also notice how it never got finished.
New Features
- The Core
This giant interial mechanism supports the Death Star. A series of small tunnels that can fit a spaceship lead to the giant room that holds it. A protective shield surrounds it, but it can be destroyed.
- Shield Bunker
To protect the Death Star II from attack and while it was being built, a shield generator was constructed on the planet Endor. It was a small buidling, with generator controls and the machine that powered the shield. A giant satelite sends out the shield.
The Second History
Before the Empire invaded the Rebel Alliance base on Hoth, Imperial forces began construction on a new Death Star. Their aim was to make this new battlestation an exact copy of the first one. The laser cannon was also reinstalled, but could fire more frequently than the laser cannon of the first Death Star.
The Rebellion found out about the Death Star II's construction when it was about three quarters of the way finished. The Rebels reviewed the plan for the new space station and discovered a core that, if destroyed, could blow up the Death Star II. A shield generator on Endor protected the Death Star, and Han Solo led a group of Rebels to destroy it. Admiral Ackbar led the Rebel fleet in an attack against the Death Star. The Imperial fleet met them there. While all of this happened, Luke Skywalker confronted Darth Vader and Darth Sidious, defeating Darth Vader, who killed Darth Sidious, thus turning him away from the Dark Side of the Force.
The Empire was winning with their more powerful fleet. The Rebel Alliance did manage to take out the Super Star Destroyer Executor, which was the Imperial's captital ship. The Empire's forces were still strong without it.
Han's attack force managed to blow up the generator, allowing Lando Calrissian and a group of Rebel starfighters to enter the tunnels leading to the core. The Rebellion attack force reached the core room, and they destroyed the core. The destruction of the Death Star II dealt a major blow to the Galactic Empire, but the Galactic Civil War would continue onward.
